Samson Mereru
WASH Coordinator
Samson is the WASH Coordinator at The Maa Trust, where he coordinates the implementation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives in the Maasai Mara. His duties include planning, budgeting, implementing, coordinating, and reporting on various WASH activities. These activities range from providing capacity-building training to implementing water infrastructure projects and community-led sanitation programmes in communities and schools. His work ensures communities adopt good sanitation practices and supports the construction and use of toilets, alongside efforts to achieve open defecation-free (ODF) status.
Before his current role, Sam contributed to The Maa Trust as a part-time youth peer mentor and career trainer for two years. Following this, he took on the position of a WASH reliever from July to December 2023, where he demonstrated his strong commitment to programme activities implementation, effective community engagement, and reporting which led to his promotion to WASH Assistant in January 2024. While an assistant, he demonstrated his dedication and skills in project coordination. In recognition of his growing leadership and impact within the programme, he transitioned to the role of WASH Coordinator in July 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Development from Chuka University, which he completed in 2022, and he is currently pursuing a WASH certificate from Humanitarian Global.
