On 17 June 2026, organizations working across the Maasai Mara landscape gathered for the second edition of the Mara Implementing Partners Event, a collaborative platform established to enhance coordination, partnership, and collective action for sustainable community development. Building on the success of the inaugural forum held in November 2025, the event provided an important opportunity for stakeholders to connect, share experiences, and align efforts toward common development goals.

The workshop brought together 44 participants representing 23 organizations working across diverse thematic areas, including Education, Health and WASH, Conservation and Human-Wildlife Conflict, Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment, Gender and Rights, and Coordination. The gathering reflected a shared commitment to improving outcomes for communities while supporting the conservation of the Maasai Mara ecosystem.
The event opened with introductions and a reflection session where participants shared the most successful partnerships their organizations had developed since the previous meeting. Discussions focused on the factors that contributed to these successes, highlighting the importance of trust, communication, shared objectives, and community engagement in achieving meaningful impact.
Each organization was also given an opportunity to present its work, priorities, achievements, and ongoing initiatives. These presentations enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the activities taking place across the landscape, identify areas of overlap, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Speaking during the event, Isen Kipetu, Chief Programmes Officer at The Maa Trust, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among organizations operating in the region.
“Development partners should not be working in silos – including wildlife, tourism, and conservation stakeholders. We need to work together to maximize our collective impact.”

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in constructive discussions on how to improve coordination, strengthen partnerships, and ensure resources are utilized effectively to address shared challenges facing communities and conservation efforts in the Maasai Mara.
A key outcome of the event was the establishment of the Mara Implementing Partners Steering Committee. The committee will play a critical role in guiding future coordination efforts, fostering stronger collaboration among partners, and supporting collective action across the region. By creating a structured mechanism for engagement, the steering committee will help ensure that stakeholders remain connected and aligned in their efforts to deliver sustainable and impactful programming. Participants welcomed the opportunity to engage with fellow organizations and learn more about the work being undertaken across the landscape.
Reflecting on the event, Billy Ouma, Economic Empowerment Officer, Big Dreams and Child Marriage, Narok at World Vision noted:
“The event was good. It brought several stakeholders together, which is not an easy thing to achieve. We appreciate the work that each organization is doing because everyone had an opportunity to present their work. Going forward, we should continue having such forums because they help create synergy among partners and ensure that we do not duplicate efforts at the community level.”
The event reaffirmed the value of partnership as a cornerstone for addressing complex development and conservation challenges. By creating space for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and joint planning, the Mara Implementing Partners Event continues to strengthen relationships among organizations working to improve livelihoods, protect natural resources, and support sustainable development across the Maasai Mara.
As stakeholders move forward with renewed commitment and the guidance of the newly formed steering committee, the forum has laid a strong foundation for more coordinated, efficient, and impactful programming that benefits communities, wildlife, and ecosystems throughout the landscape.
The Maa Trust remains committed to fostering collaboration and creating platforms that bring partners together to drive lasting positive change across the Maasai Mara.
