It was an inspiring and uplifting moment as the CHP Talek Maternal; Newborn and Child

Health (MNCH) facility celebrated its two-year anniversary on March 7, 2026. More than 200 guests gathered at the Community Christian Church grounds in Talek to commemorate the milestone and reflect on the progress made in expanding access to healthcare across the Maasai Mara.
The event was graced by the Narok County Government, Ministry of Health, the Maa Trust, Asilia, Davis & Shirtliff, Safari Collection, Governor’s Balloon Safaris, World Vision, and members of the local community.
Guests had an opportunity of touring the state-of-the-art facility and learn more about its services, including telemedicine, general medical care, X-ray services, and maternity support. The celebration also provided an opportunity for dialogue, allowing the community to share feedback and discuss ways to improve healthcare delivery in the region. A key highlight of the day was the launch of a 25kW solar power system, funded by Saruni Basecamp Foundation, Davis & Shirtliff, and Huawei, as well as the unveiling of a new utility building funded by the Aqua Nirvana Foundation.
John Sankok, Director at CHP, expressed his appreciation to partners and supporters.
“Let me take this opportunity to appreciate Crystal. Thank you for making it possible for us to gather here today. You are truly an asset and a valuable partner to CHP and to this community. We are very grateful.”
Lepatao Tipo, Sub-County Ministry of Health representative for Narok West, commended the facility’s contribution to national health goals.

“We are really proud of Talek CHP for the work you are doing in terms of assisting the Country in achieving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) 2030, he said. “So, we appreciate the work of CHP. We have three more facilities, that is Aitong and Mara Rianta. They are really supporting us in terms of coverage and getting closer to the people of Nar
ok West”
Transforming Healthcare in the Maasai Mara
The Talek MNCH facility was officially opened on March 1, 2024, to provide comprehensive maternal and newborn services under one roof to an underserved community with a catchment population of over 200,000 people. With support from multiple partners, Talek MNCH has become the region’s only facility offering services from a medical doctor, a fully equipped surgical theatre, a Neonatal High Dependency Unit (NHDU), and a blood transfusion unit.
The facility was built with the support of The Maa Trust and its partners to address critical gaps in healthcare services that previously forced families to travel long distances for treatment. The project was funded through a coalition that included the M-Pesa Foundation, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Foundation, Prime Bank, Davis & Shirtliff, Aqua Nirvana Foundation, Gould Family Foundation, Response-Med, Lifenet International, Hemingways Collection, Olare Mara Kempinski, CMF, Giustina Family Foundation, Governors’ Balloon Safaris, Mahali Mzuri, Asilia, and the Narok County Government. Together, the partners raised approximately KSh 66 million to construct and equip the facility.

Over the past two years, Talek MNCH has made a significant impact. The facility has conducted over 800 safe deliveries, 67 critically ill newborns cared for in the NHDU, 2,293 children and youth receiving telemedicine consultations through the Daktari Smart Programme in partnership with Getrudes’s Children Hospital, and routine inpatient and outpatient medical services for thousands of families.
Looking Ahead
Two years on, Talek MNCH is not just a healthcare facility, it is a lifeline for families and a cornerstone of healthier communities across the Maasai Mara. Narok County Minister of Health Vivian Sere Timpeti acknowledged the importance of the collaboration and pledged continued support from the county government.
“I can see the level of collaboration goes beyond this facility. I can hear already the support you have given in totality and we appreciate that. We will definitely collaborate more,” she said. “Let’s purpose to ensure that we work together. I will also go at the policy level to see where we can improve more on issues of drug suppliers and the HRH. As much as we are facing challenges, it is important that we strengthen the facilities that are already doing good. This is a mini-hub for Narok West, we have Nkoilale as also another hub but we would want our referrals systems to be such that when people come to this facility they find the vest level of care and I have already seen the facilities that are here the personnel the commodities and the tests. We would not want to waste away our facility, so we talked to our people and I also talked to Crystal earlier on issues of outreaches.”
William, representing Asilia, reaffirmed the company’s continued partnership with the Maa Trust.
“I would like to take this opportuni

ty and congratulate The Maa Trust and Maternal Newborn and Child health or Talek Clinic for your second anniversary. As Asilia, we will continue to work closely and support each other. You know Asilia we support you with the Mama Kits and tree planting as Maa Trust. So, I would like to say that we will continue working together, partner together and congratulations again.”
