DevelopPPP Project: Advancing Women’s Leadership and Community Safeguards

Updated: 22 minutes ago

The DeveloPPP Project is a three-year initiative designed to transform lives across the Maasai Mara. Launched on 19th September 2025, it is a collaboration between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the I&M Foundation on behalf of I&M Bank, within the develoPPP funding programme.

Under the DevelopPPP Project, the Gender, Safeguards and Leadership Department is strengthening women’s leadership, community resilience, and child protection through targeted population health education and safeguards programming across Narok South.

In January, the department successfully conducted eight Women in Leadership dissemination workshops, reaching a total of 247 women across six villages. The first phase, held on 19th, 20th and 21st January, engaged 122 women from Oltiameletei, Lesekenkei and Embiti villages. A second phase followed on 23rd, 26th and 27th January, reaching an additional 125 women in Oloirien, Enkupelia and Enchoroosidan villages.

The workshops focused on Population Health Education (PHE), with key thematic areas including land grazing management and environmental conservation, sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health, climate change adaptation, household nutrition, genital mutilation (FGM), positive parenting and community wellbeing.

These sessions provided women with practical knowledge to support informed decision-making, promote sustainable livelihoods, and strengthen their role as leaders and advocates within their communities.
